Ben Sherman is releasing there new line soon called palctrum. Taking more of a small label feel with a big brand name in the uk. Looking forward to this New York inspired winter jacket! From what I hear it may be around $500.00 so I might be cold this winter!

So This is my First post as of now living in NY, The last couple days have been crazy from the heat to the rain all well trying to furnish an apartment with no car or tools.. I am rather shocked at how well everything has fallen into place.

In the mean time I was woken up by ups at 10 am after being up till about three building Ikea crap, To find a few copys of an article on my Kickstarter project in Rangfinder Magazine.

My website which is through LiveBooks, is going to get some design updates this summer which include full screen auto sizing to what ever screen size you are viewing my site on (15 mac book or 27 inch I mac)

Sigma is coming out with a 43 mega pixel DSLR camera this summer, Not a big fan of sigma but 43 mega pixels is the largest sensor to date for a dslr, Priced at $9,800.00 bucks! (with no lens)

I am doing a small promo that I was inspired to do by the streets of NY, Each promo is a 9x12 box filled with tissue paper a 6x8 30 page book with slip case from Auska Books. And a couple of 5x7 promo cards and a note to each person!

So I am getting ready for my move to NYC in June 1st, I may have gotten a cool (but tiny) loft in Brooklyn Heights, I am really excited to take my work to the next level in a city like New York!

An Image of mine was featured online with Vogue italia, An Image I shoot at SmashBox Studios with Model Ryan Curry of Next Models. It was really great working with Ryan and hearing about his shoots with paolo roversi in Paris and other amazing photographers.

So a week or so a go I lunched mt kickstarter Project...I am pretty amazed at how well its going, with 21 backers about 19 being friends,,Its safe to say I have an amazing group of friends who support my art!
If you havent gotten a chance to check out my project please do so and note the great rewards at the left of the screen.

In other news I was lucky enough to do AdoramaTV a TV show/Web cast for Adorama Camera in New York. We Shot the interview at 8am and I had shot late the night before so I look and sound pretty tired and of course youtube viewers let me have it hard in the comment section but hey thats the internet for you :)

I Just got in a few new promo books from asuka book Really happy with there printing and case,s. I gave one to an Art buyer with Team one and his first response was (love the case) some times its the small things that go the long distance!

This below photo was taken of Grey Damon from Ture Blood, I used a fog machine 2 packs and three lights on a black Paper Roll in my studio. I had a dished background lite snooted down with printer paper taped to the dish. I had a side light with a closed down umberlla and a front light of a XL softbox.

So for the last few weeks I have been working on my marketing materials and doing a lot of design work for my brand. I just got my new promo cards from modern postcard here . They look really amazing I was worried when I was ordering these that they might end up being like Overnight prints or Costco postcards..Yes I have tired both in the past and can say spending a little more will make the difference. They come in this great semi matt feel. I got the 4-side 5by7 full color, below is an image of them.

On and there fast about 7 days from placing the order with no rush charge.

I have been working on a new book as well the basic look of it can be seen below note that the color will not be red. This gives you an idea for the layout that I am doing.

And Of course there is the website... I have been working on it for a few days and think it will be ready to go live in about 2 weeks. The website has Vimeo video payer inside of it as well as Private login and many other amazing details.

I just shot I really Amazing editorial for a great magazine. At this time I am not going to release any photos till the issues release in Dec. I may have the cover for this issue as well; I am very excited to see the story in print. We have a full BTS video that will be released also when the issue is out. The shoot was a one-girl story set in a forest outside of LA.

So its been a while since my last post..Sorry about that but, Hey I have been busy ;).. For the last 2 weeks I have been getting ready for a large scale editorial I am doing. Below Is the model I have booked for the shoot. And below that is the location in which we are shooting! And below that is a look at the style of clothing we will be shooting. All of these photos were pulled from the treatment which me and the stylist/team have co-labed on.

I have also Been messing around with Video like a lot of still photographers right now. I have a reel that I will post on here in a few months but in the mean time here are my first two video,s ever. Go easy on me I am still trying to get a grip on video and editing.

I shot Harrison from Next Models This Week and Got to demo some great gear Also did some testing with the Ipad terthered.. The Ranger and the large size octbank by elinchrom where pretty amazing and very much like profotos 7b if not better! I found the digital display on the pack easy to use rather then a Profoto knob on the 7B (even tho profoto has a digital display now on the D units)...Below are some unedited story boards I am laying out for my book..

So I found out about three months ago that I won The Image 10 Fine art contest put on by The ASMP. Click the link here to view the contest. I am really excited to be apart of this great contest/gallery show in New york. The gallery exhibit will be part of the DUMBO arts Festival. The opening will be on Friday, September 24th at 6:30 PM at 20 Jay Street, Suite 312 brooklyn.

On my last Fashion shoot I wanted to use as many formats as I could. I really love shooting with every type of camera out there.. I shoot with the H3d-2-31/mamiya645/leaf aptus/nikon f3/cannon 5dmark2 and a hasselblad 500c..Shoot with digital backs and a roll of 38-35mm provia 100..12-120 TRX and motion with the 5dmark2 at 1020p 20f per sec. below is just three of five cases needed for the gear..and below that is one image from the shoot.

I have Been doing a lot of studio shooting over the past few weeks which has been really great! Here I have a 4 light setup going. I have a beauty dish grided,soft bank mini as a side light,snooted hair light from above..black wraped back light.. I was shooting on the mamiya 645afd2 with a 120mm and the leaf aptus 65 27mp digital back.

I started printing my new Book to update my old one. My new book is 14x11 leather bound layflat screwpost book with a promo pocket and CD holder for my reel. I have been printing on the Epson 2400 with the Epson matt inks and Moab 235gram lasel matt paper. The paper is really amazing and gives an almost 3-d look to my photos..Image below

From the above info you can see a print book can be just as expensive..My opinion is that the Ipad is a great investment for a commercial photographer. A print book must be updated every 3-6 months..which rolls the cost of your book over and over..With the ipad your main cost is going to be buying the new one every 12 months.

Call To Action: print your book, or buy the iPad you have been dying to buy, and/or get your digital/virtual portfolio together. If budget allows I vote for all 3. If budget is tight and $500 is more realistic, then the iPad.

Wow its been a while since my last post..I have been traveling a lot from Washington to Chicago to Paris. I managed to shoot all the time which was really amazing and even had time to see the citys. On my first day in Paris I went to the Profoto showroom in Paris where I got to see some of Profoto,s new gear. I was got to use the new pro-b3 AIR/R which is a generator with a built in battery for Location shooting. The new B3 is based after the Famous 7-B generator, However the B3 is way way lighter then the 7-b which is great since this is for location lighting. Also Had a chance to use the new Smaller profoto head with no fan. The head was great didnt seem to over heat and was about half the size of the Normal profoto head. Like most photography gear this is priced at the low rate of 7,000.00 and the head 2,000 (That was a joke about being cheap)

 Over the last few days I have been gearing up for Paris..Trying to dig my passport out of my closet and run through a check list of gear and chargers needed for my trip! The images bellow are of my gear when I was shooting at smash box last week. I had a cannon 5dmark2 with 70-200L2-@2.8 along

with the Hasselblad H-3-D2-40 with the 80mm@2.8

Close on the heels of Apple's announcement  that it received over 600,000 pre-orders for iPhone 4 yesterday, the  company has once again delayed shipping estimates for new pre-orders in  the United States.

Adobe has launched version 3 of its Photoshop Lightroom RAW processing  and   workflow tool. The result of feedback from professionals and an  eight month public   beta process, the latest version is based around a  new RAW processing engine (same as Photoshop CS5) and comes with a host  of new features. Key additions include native 64-bit support, profile  based Lens Correction,        tethered shooting for a number of Nikon  and Canon DSLRs and   importing  and management of video files.  Lightroom 3 is available now at US $299 for first time buyers and $99 as  an upgrade   to existing users. 

Here is an image from a shoot I just did the other day at Smashbox Hollywood. Other then shooting I have been working on my video reel and Learning how to cut video which has been really great as I have always wanted to learn but never really tired.

 The last week has Been pretty crazy, I have been living out of a suitcase! The Weekend is nearing and I am getting ready for a shoot at Smashbox Hollywood This Saturday. I will post images from the shoot asap. In the mean time I am getting ready to leave for France to shoot for a while this summer. Trying to pull of 2 other shoots before i leave near the end of the month.

I just started using Cs5 and really love it, But it really isnt much different from Cs4. I really love how you can go from Photoshop into Bridge Light box. I also Started working on my Motion Reel for my website. I am editing in Final cut express 4.1 Its pretty amazing program but I am still learning how to work with it.

 This Image was taken a few months back when I was living in my old place right outside Venice beach. Me and my roommate are both photographers Designers and all around creative people which lead to are living space turning into on giant canvas, from the painted beer cans on are wall to are painted refrigerator. It was pretty cool to live in a place with no real artistic limits. The below shot of the man getting his head shaved was My Roommates and the other Image was of the first stage of painting are refrigerator which blow up a few weeks later..

Yesterday I found out I am among 10 photographers who will have there work in a top New York art gallery as part of the Asmp Image 10 contest. I am having a custom 16by20 fine art print made for the show in New York. Hopefully I will Win First place as I really love the prizes there giving away..The Worst that can happen is my print is in the show in New York(still pretty amazing, thousands entered). The Image That won is below.

So the other day i did a Nike spec shoot With John from Next. I wanted to make a dark image with some complex lighting done in studio. The images shown are not photoshoped they were shot with a hasselblad HD3- at @800 of 1 sec. Here is a few of the shots I am still working on.

This coming weekend I am shooting both saturday and sunday. Sunday I am shooting at an AMAZING location right near downtown LA. The location is the famous 1920.S hotel which is used for filming movies and TV. We are shooting a great male model from NEXT-LA.. I will post images asap. As rumored, Adobe has launched Photoshop CS5 and CS5 Extended - the latest versions of its image manipulation software. They will be available separately or as components of the Creative Suite 5 family of design and production software bundles. Both include revised interfaces and a host of new tools and refinements (discussed in the accompanying story). Photoshop CS5 and CS5 Extended are expected to begin shipping next month for around US $699 and $999. Licensed users of the previous versions can upgrade for $149 and $349 respectively.

Previously available in its AFi-II cameras, the system can change from portrait to landscape orientation without removing the back. Priced at €24,995, the back includes a 56 x 33mm sensor (with 56MP on an area over twice the dimensions of a 'full-frame' sensor), 3.5" touch screen LCD, 80-800 ISO range and is compatible with most medium and large format cameras.

Brushing up on the old retouching skills...
Most photographers these days still out source there work to retouchers to get that flawless look. I think Its a large part of the devlopment of your images and style!.. Yes it takes some long hours but Its something all photographers should be doing (even when your making $$)

I also picked up this great softbox from samys. This softbox fits in a small bag and pops open..Comes with a mount for an off camera flash!..I just got the Quantam battery pack also. Now I have full studio lighting for location work..with a quick recycle time...(nothing is worse then having to wait 20 mins for your AA,s...Which end up lasting 100 shoots. With the power pack you get 500 or more shoots per charge!

I just got a new camera from B and H- new york. The camera is the instax 210 camera, Which shoots wide format Instant film!..

So In the next few days I will be doing a few shoots!

The first shoot is a location shoot, which I will be doing in Toppanga canyon. The style is british much like
burberry. The model I am using is With Next model,s. I will post images after the shoot!

The next shoot is At Park Plaza in Downtown LA. The shoot is a high fashion story. The model is a female from LA models. I will post images asap..

Both shoots are for LA based fashion magazines. In the mean time I have been Planning a Trip to Paris for fashion week in june.

Adobe releases Lightroom 3 Beta update
(sweet I just got 2 now there is a 3?..... fuck)

Adobe has opened the second public beta of its Photoshop Lightoom 3 software for immediate download from its Adobe Labs site. Lightroom 3 will be based around a new processing engine and the second iteration adds luminance noise reduction to the color noise reduction options that appeared in the initial beta. The latest beta also supports tethered shooting for a number of Nikon and Canon DSLRs, enables importing and management of video files and improves overall functioning of the software.

Canon faces shortage of 70-200mm f/2.8 lens

Canon Japan has announced a shortage of its recently released EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II USM lens because of higher than expected demand. The company says it is attempting to boost supply to meet demand across all markets.

I have a box of these bad boys on there way as we speak to help with my Book i am releasing which is all film based.

I have been working a lot with film latley.. I really love film the fact that I can control what happens to the image is really amazing. I may never get a client who wants film, but its realxing to not be on a computer and print by hand. I think thats why the transfer to digital was so hard for these old timmers. Its like buying a chair or making a chair by hand. I will have a fine art section up on my website very soon, However it will be my style fine art which isnt your lovely landscape.

Five years after announcing its development, and following a month-long online campaign trailing the launch, Pentax has finally unveiled its much anticipated 645D medium format digital camera. The first digital version of the company's 645 medium format camera system, it features a 40MP, 44 x 33 CCD sensor, 921k dot 3.0" LCD and is compatible with the existing 645 system lenses. The camera will initially be available only in the Japanese market at a suggested retail price of ¥850,000 (~ US $9,400) from May 2010.

Its been a pretty hectic week for me, I shoot the below test and have been printing and updating my book.

For the last few days I have been shooting film photography. I love film being a photographer born into digital it was pretty amazing to see how much hard work gose into shooting film. I am working on a self-published book for clients that show case my fine art photography. I have been shooting with the lomo-lubtiel 166+.. It is a fun plastic camera but has a glass optics, And it can shoot 120, or 35mm pannormaic.

Camera news-

Canon has announced that the long awaited, video-related firmware for its EOS 5D Mark II will be available from mid-March. Firmware version 2.0.3 enables full 1080p HD video recording at 24, 25 and 29.97fps to match the PAL and NTSC broadcast standards. It also adds a new histogram display while shooting movies and allows users to manually control sound recording levels. Audio sampling frequency has also been increased to match broadcast material standards.

Hello world...What and insane week for me..Doing 2 photoshoots this week started some Night class on business and history of photography. One of the photo shoots was for the march issue of signature magazine. The shoot was of Charles Lew, Charles is the owner of Winstons The Crown Bar,The Dime and Stout. Shooting took place at Stout which is a really amazing burger and bar (with a bunch of great beers on tap). Charles was a really cool guy and after the shoot we had some food on the house and went over photos on my laptop (It was fuckin good burger). Overall we were all very happy with the imagery we got and it was a fun day. Be sure to pick up a free copy of signature at Any of the above locations all around hollywood.

PMA 2010: Sony bosses are ‘pushing’ the company to produce a 3D digital camera, according to Masashi ‘Tiger’ Imamura President of Sony’s Personal Imaging and Sound Business group.

In an exclusive interview with dpreview.com, Mr Imamura admitted that 3D imaging is an area into which Sony is keen to expand. Following Hollywood's recent push for 3D movies and Fujifilm’s innovative digital 3D still camera, the Real 3D W1, Mr Imamura told us that his bosses keen to create a similar 3D imaging device.
In a wide-ranging interview, Mr Imamura also told us that the company’s relationship with Carl Zeiss will extend to lenses designed for the mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, unveiled at this year’s PMA. However, he refused to be drawn on details of the upcoming camera’s specification, beyond what has already been made public.
Asked whether Sony sees mirrorless stills cameras as the future, Mr Imamura deflected the question, stating simply that Sony will use whatever technology it has at its disposal to fulfill the needs of its customers.

The one bummer about a shoot that is really great is that you can only use so many images. Here is a set of images i shoot that didnt not fit in with the style of the shoot i was doing..I still really love the images

Leaf imaging has released what it says is the industry's fastest medium format camera back, in the shape of Aptus-II 8. This latest back can capture a frame in under 0.8 seconds (1.25 fps) and can shoot 60 full resolution frames in a minute. The 40MP camera back is available at a retail price of €13.995.

Apple has unveiled Aperture 3, the latest version of its raw-conversion and photo management software. It promises faster organization of large number of images and offers over 200 new features. Changes include a new Faces and Places option that enables Face detection and geotagging, an improved slideshow feature that combines photos and HD videos, and a new Brushes feature to 'paint' effects on images. Mac users who already own Aperture will be able to upgrade for US $99, while new customers can buy it for US$199.

What an amazing weekend i had..

Sunday i did a shoot at Image mechanics in santa monica. The shoot was for glitterati magazine, The shoot was a fashion story based around a dinner table scene from a french short story.

Saturday i shot at smash box studios in west hollywood. We shot two amazing models one from photogenics and the other from LA models. We started shooting beauty and moved into fashion as the day went on. Here is a set shoot of the lights and my fav pick..

A judge in New York revealed today that artist Shepard Fairey is facing a criminal investigation in connection with his admitted misconduct in the ongoing legal case with the Associated Press, according to reports.

Alvin K. Hellerstein, a federal district judge, reportedly made the revelation today as part of a hearing where lawyers for Fairey and the AP were present.

A spokesman for the AP said in a statement issued this evening that the news organization has received a grand jury subpoena related to Fairey's misconduct during the case.

A lawyer representing Fairey did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In October, the L.A. artist admitted that he knowingly submitted false images and deleted others during the case in an attempt to conceal the fact that the AP had correctly identified the photo that Fairey had used as a reference for his "Hope" poster of then-Sen. Barack Obama.

In February, the AP claimed that Fairey violated copyright laws when he used one of its images as the basis for the poster. In response, the artist filed a lawsuit against the AP, claiming that he was protected under fair use.

At the time, Fairey claimed that he used a different photo as the inspiration for his poster. He has since admitted that the AP is correct about which photo he used.

Following today's hearing, the AP published a report stating that the judge revealed the grand jury probe in a handwritten note denying a request by a Fairey attorney that a hearing relating to a copyright lawsuit be closed.

Steve Jobs and the Economics of Elitism

The more, the better. That’s the fashionable recipe for nurturing new ideas these days. It emphasizes a kind of Internet-era egalitarianism that celebrates the “wisdom of the crowd” and “open innovation.” Assemble all the contributions in the digital suggestion box, we’re told in books and academic research, and the result will be collective intelligence.

Yet Apple, a creativity factory meticulously built by Steven P. Jobssince he returned to the company in 1997, suggests another innovation formula — one more elitist and individual.
This approach is reflected in the company’s latest potentially game-changing gadget, the iPad tablet, unveiled last week. It may succeed or stumble but it clearly carries the taste and perspective of Mr. Jobs and seems stamped by the company’s earlier marketing motto: Think Different.
Apple represents the “auteur model of innovation,” observes John Kao, a consultant to corporations and governments on innovation. In the auteur model, he said, there is a tight connection between the personality of the project leader and what is created. Movies created by powerful directors, he says, are clear examples, from Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo” to James Cameron’s “Avatar.”
At Apple, there is a similar link between the ultimate design-team leader, Mr. Jobs, and the products. From computers to smartphones, Apple products are known for being stylish, powerful and pleasing to use. They are edited products that cut through complexity, by consciously leaving things out — not cramming every feature that came into an engineer’s head, an affliction known as “featuritis” that burdens so many technology products.
“A defining quality of Apple has been design restraint,” says Paul Saffo, a technology forecaster and consultant in Silicon Valley.
That restraint is evident in Mr. Jobs’s personal taste. His black turtleneck, beltless blue jeans and running shoes are a signature look. In his Palo Alto home years ago, he said that he preferred uncluttered, spare interiors and then explained the elegant craftsmanship of the simple wooden chairs in his living room, made by George Nakashima, the 20th-century furniture designer and father of the American craft movement.
Great products, according to Mr. Jobs, are triumphs of “taste.” And taste, he explains, is a byproduct of study, observation and being steeped in the culture of the past and present, of “trying to expose yourself to the best things humans have done and then bring those things into what you are doing.”
His is not a product-design philosophy steered by committee or determined by market research. The Jobs formula, say colleagues, relies heavily on tenacity, patience, belief and instinct. He gets deeply involved in hardware and software design choices, which await his personal nod or veto. Mr. Jobs, of course, is one member of a large team at Apple, even if he is the leader. Indeed, he has often described his role as a team leader. In choosing key members of his team, he looks for the multiplier factor of excellence. Truly outstanding designers, engineers and managers, he says, are not just 10 percent, 20 percent or 30 percent better than merely very good ones, but 10 times better. Their contributions, he adds, are the raw material of “aha” products, which make users rethink their notions of, say, a music player or cellphone.
“Real innovation in technology involves a leap ahead, anticipating needs that no one really knew they had and then delivering capabilities that redefine product categories,” said David B. Yoffie, a professor at the Harvard Business School. “That’s what Steve Jobs has done.”
Timing is essential to make such big steps ahead. Carver Mead, a leading computer scientist at the California Institute of Technology, once said, “Listen to the technology; find out what it’s telling you.”
Mr. Jobs is undeniably a gifted marketer and showman, but he is also a skilled listener to the technology. He calls this “tracking vectors in technology over time,” to judge when an intriguing innovation is ready for the marketplace. Technical progress, affordable pricing and consumer demand all must jell to produce a blockbuster product.
Indeed, Apple designers and engineers have been working on the iPad for years, presenting Mr. Jobs with prototypes periodically. None passed muster, until recently.
The iPad bet could prove a loser for Apple. Some skeptics see it occupying an uncertain ground between an iPod and a notebook computer, and a pricey gadget as well, at $499 to $829. Do recall, though, that when the iPod was introduced in 2001, critics joked that the name was an acronym for “idiots price our devices.” And we know who had the last laugh that time.
